It depends on how much you allow it to expand.  If you allow it to expand
at constant pressure, then it's obviously the same pressure.  If you allow
it to expand more, by reducing the pressure, it will cool, converting heat
energy back into mechanical work.

Why can't it be transferring energy by molecular collisions?  That's the
way it pushes pistons in an IC engine.
