Garnaut's Green Offsets

Ross Garnaut seems to be enjoying his role as Kevin Rudd's great green
global warming guru.
It might win him some moral offsets for his work as chairman of Lihir
Gold, which has an alleged contribution to the environment that green
groups like a lot less:

Ocean Dumping 89 million tonnes of cyanide-contaminated mine waste
(tailings)
Ocean dumping 330 million tonnes of waste rock
Killing surrounding coral reefs, fish and shelfish
Destroying 7km of coral reef (creating a "severe impact zone")
Destroying a Melanesian Scrubfowl Nesting Zone
Causing Shellfish ac***ulation of toxic levels of heavy metals, making
them unfit for consumption
Damaging culturally-significant hot springs and graveyards
