This project is now looking very doubtful indeed. Gunns have failed to
make any projections at all on future carbon pricings for the mills
feedstock. This is an extremely serious error given the trees they are
processing are 86% carbon and the only way they can obtain credits for
them is from within the cartel. In other words for every tree Gunns
process they will have to leave a similar tree growing. Do the maths. They
will run out of trees quickly as production ramps-up. The Gunns pulp mill
was entirely reliant on a pre-Kyoto carbon model to at least attempt to
break even with cheap tropical wood pulp. Now they have been thrown into
total chaos by refusing to acknowledge the climate change they helped
create over years of forestry vandalism and political vote-buying.
