Yet the sun has been getting cooler as the surface of the earth warms.

Too early? Ahahahahaha.. By that time the earth's CO2 levels were
already
at 300 ppm.
So some of the warming, about .15'C of the observed rise (.25'C) is
attributable to the CO2 increase.
The remaining .1'C is no surprise about the distance between the peak
temp
in 1942 and the warming trend established up to this day.
