It was a bit of a non-event locally. My winter coat, show shovels, and
electric bed blanket stayed in the closet. Most winters I have to scrape
2-5
cm of snow of my driveway and sidewalks at least 2 or 3 times. Last winter
all the snow that fell around my home melted within minutes.
In my mother in law's childhood locals used to go skating for weeks on
Rithet's Bog and Pamama Flats. Going back to the early 1900s the city of
Victoria used to light bonfires beside Goodacre Lake so skaters could
warm up from the deep cold. Those are distant memories, relegated to the
history books decades ago. Meanwhile sea level keeps rising, faster than
the Coastal mountains are being uplifted by the Pacific plate pu****ng
under
them.
Sea level rise has averaged a meter per century since the last glacial
maximum. The fact that it hasn't been rising that fast in recent centuries
means that maximum sea level rise rates were even higher. During the
Meltwater
Surge sea level rose a meter every 20 years, for 500 years.
Those "bathtub rings" around Lake Mead and Lake Powell are growing again,
