The Marvel Comics adaptation "Iron Man" topped the box office with a
$100.7
million weekend, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according
to
studio estimates, and scored overseas with $96.7 million in 57 countries
where
it began opening Wednesday. Despite the huge opening, Hollywood's overall
business was down 15% compared with the same weekend last year.
