> The price of beer is going up? This is getting serious now!
The world market for hops has been in trouble for several years now. There
has been a shortage due to fungus and other factors, especially in the
State
of Wa****ngton U.S. that is the world's primary supplier, that has driven
the
price of that key beer ingredient "through the roof." It's actually
surprising that the price hasn't dramatically increased earlier. Of course
the custom, micro-brewed beers have had to increase their prices long
before
now.
If this were the 1960's when "better living through chemistry" by Monsanto
and Dow Chemical was the buzz, then we could probably expect to see
"artificial bitters" of some sort come into play. Today's beer-drinking
public is a little bit better educated though (*there's* a contentious
statement), and won't tolerate such imbibes; they'd rather pay more for
their beer or switch to the $10 per 5 liter boxed wines to get their
alcohol-addictive fix. They might even lose their sagging bellies in the
process -- or not.
