It's obviously to the government's benefit to lie about the Consumer
Price Index (CPI) so they can avoid boosting social security
payments--that was probably the original justification for "core"
inflation--inflation minus food and energy prices.

But why does the media buy these false figures? It makes some sense
for the money magazines, because their advertisers are all mutual
funds, and no one would invest if they knew inflation was 10+% while
mutual fund returns are averaging 2% (annually adjusted) these days.

So what's the excuse for the rest of the media, who are constantly fed
false figues and swallow them? It's not just the CPI, inflation, gas
prices, and so on, it's everything economic, such as the number of
jobs lost every month--ever notice that when those figures are
"unexpectedly low", they're invariably "adjusted" way up a month
later--when no one is looking?

So where's the outrage in the media?
