May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's economy grew 3.3 percent last quarter,
faster than economists estimated, as ex****ts to Asia and emerging
markets helped the nation weather the U.S. slowdown.

 May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong's economic growth unexpectedly
accelerated in the first quarter as ex****ts to China and Europe
climbed.

Gross domestic product rose 7.1 percent from a year earlier, the
government said today at a press conference in Hong Kong, after
gaining a revised 6.9 percent in the fourth quarter. That topped the 6
percent median estimate of 16 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.

Germany yesterday surprised analysts across Europe with new figures
showing that its economy grew by 1.5 per cent during the first quarter
of the year, twice the rate predicted by forecasters.
