So you engaged in a trade with smelly
hippies before you could indulge in
practicing your free speech. Free trade
preceded your free speech.

Well, if that were true, it would mean that someone
would have had to hire the union mafia thugs who
made the road. Hence, free trade precedes each
and every discrete instance of free speech. You
are full of internal contradictions.
Anyway, there is one sort of public funding that
really is required to defend free speech. That is,
protecting you from fascist islamic fundamentalists
who gun you down for making nasty movies about
Islam. The Netherlands let Theo Van Gogh down
there. If you prefer, substitute christian, atheist,
commies\, paranoid right-wing, or union thugs for
the islamists.
