Is there a better newsgroup for democraphic/population
disussions ?
A few years back, I was told that China's one-child policy
was a success, and that obese, spoilt single-children were
a common problem. Now I'm told that China's population is
increasing by 70 Million a year.
It was previously believed that India's population was
overtaking China's because India lacked a successful
birth-control program like China's. Also I attributed China's
never before in history 'economic growth' to be due to the
never before in history "moving of the demographic bubble,
from the African-like situation, of many young unproductive,
towards the Japan-Germany-like situation, of many old
unproductive/pensioners, through the middle range of mostly
productive population". This mechanism would confirm
that the population growth had slowed or stopped some time
back, and that the smaller-family children had become better
educated, due to not having to share educational resources
with many siblings, and had become productive. And not having
to support a large number of young unproductive, nor old
unproductive, the GDP per capita had increased.
What are the current facts re. China's [and India's]
population growth ?
