There are dozens of such "new processes", just as there always have
been, with always seemingly endless possibilities. Except for little
things like in larger scale testing flaws emerge which weren't
anticipated or they can't be produced economically, etc. etc.

Actually, I'm personally convinced that if oil prices stay high that
some new process - very likely one that no one has yet heard of - will
in fact be developed to economically replace fossil fuels. In a prior
era it would have sped into the market "virtually overnight" with no
more opposition than the usual ignorant "if God had meant us to fly he
would have given us wings". Today it's difficult to predict.what
hurdles it might have to overcome. Look at the opposition that nuclear
energy encountered or what biotechnology is having to contend with.

So long as we are more concerned with caribou than we are with our
supply of energy, it is not a hopeful picture.
